The Aegina Pistachio Museum is delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Institute of Agricultural Sciences (I.A.S.), one of Greece’s most distinguished institutions in the fields of agricultural education, research and innovation.
During the meeting of its Board of Directors with A.P.M. A.M.K.E. on 11 June 2026, the collaboration was unanimously approved. The Memorandum was signed by the Chairman of the Board, Dr Dionysios Avgerinou Kyriakopoulos, and the President of A.P.M. A.M.K.E., Stavros Kostakis.
This partnership represents an important step towards strengthening education, research and expertise surrounding pistachio cultivation and, more broadly, the primary sector, creating bridges between science, production, local development and cultural heritage.
The Aegina Pistachio is an integral part of the island’s identity and one of the most important ambassadors of Greek agricultural production. Preserving and promoting its history, while continuously advancing cultivation practices and scientific knowledge, creates the conditions for a sustainable and dynamic future for the sector.
Under the Memorandum, a series of joint initiatives will be developed, including educational programmes, training seminars, conferences, applied research projects, student internship opportunities, and actions designed to promote modern applications and emerging technologies within the agri-food sector.
Among other initiatives, the collaboration includes the establishment of a TÜV-certified accreditation programme for professional pistachio growers, with different levels of certification aimed at enhancing professional skills, ensuring quality standards and strengthening the competitiveness of the sector.
Particular emphasis will be placed on supporting professionals in Aegina, promoting the history and significance of Aegina Pistachio cultivation, and strengthening connections between the Museum, academic institutions, research organisations and industry professionals.
Through this partnership, the two organisations reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing scientific knowledge, strengthening the primary sector and safeguarding the cultural identity associated with Aegina’s iconic product.
For the Aegina Pistachio Museum, the story of the pistachio tree does not belong solely to the past.
It is knowledge that continues to be cultivated, developed and passed on to future generations.
